How many of these music stars do you recognise? When Mick Rock left Emanuel in 1963 he attended Cambridge University. Within a few short years he was catapulted to fame as one of the World’s leading music photographers. This began with a series of photographs he took of Pink Floyd singer Syd Barrett (he was paid £50 for the photo on the cover of the first solo Barrett album). He is also responsible for taking some of the most recognisable and memorable music photographs of the 1960s and 1970s including Debbie Harry and Blondie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, David Bowie and his Ziggy Stardust persona, Iggy Pop, Queen, The Ramones and Lou Reed. His work became so recognisable he became known as “The man who photographed the 70s”. Many of his photographs have appeared on very famous album covers. Mick has remained close to the pulse of contemporary music and is by no means a child of his generation. Having lived in New York for the last 25 years, he continues to photograph the cream of alterative music very recently including The Year Yeah Yeahs, The Killers and other modern stars such as Kate Moss. Mick has very kindly given the School permission to display some of his most famous pictures on our web-site. We also have a couple of his books on display in our School Archive. How many of these stars do you recognise? They include: David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lour Reed, Mick Jagger, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Scissor Sisters, Kate Moss, Razorlight, The Ramones, The Killers, Ozzy Osbourne, Kasabien, Wayne Coyne, Johnny Rotten, Freddy Mercury, Queen and Syd Barrett. And a few more for you to guess yourself! Tony Jones Emanuel School Archivist |
