Gifts to the School Archives
Recent gifts the the school archives have included: John Williams (60-63) has lent us his England Boys rugby shirt. Rugby wise, he's one of a very few OEs to play at this level. He has also donated a couple of rugby programs in which he featured. Prof. Tony Judt (59 -66): collection of his published work Geoff Simms (68 -75): chess facilities in the new library Derek Saunders (48 -56): Generous gift towards new books in the library, as well as the benefaction in 2006 of a sixth form prize to be awarded annually called The Derek Saunders Prize for excellence in the Humanities. The school is most grateful to Geoffrey's widow Gladys who left a generous legacy to the school in memory of her husband. Received January 2006 Mrs E G Hirst-Brown, Trophy and photograph from 1905-1907 bequeathed to the school by the daughter of George Littlewood Hirst an OE from the very early part of the 20th Century. Mrs Violetta Kaydan, Chair of the EPA Large montage of photos which depict the celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the school when the Queen visited Emanuel in 1994. Mrs K G Fowles Pennant from the rugby posts 1934. Mike Markland (46 - 55), committee member of Old Emanuel Association, has donated over 70 photographs depicting Emanuel from the early 1910s to the 1960s. Included in this treasure of memories are a range of sports photographs of school rugby and cricket squads, including many OE squads. There are also other lovely historical snap-shots including photos of the senior prefects, OE dinners and a wide range of squads still in their original glass frames. Lady Dacre was the founder and first benefactor of Emanuel School. Following her generous benefaction the school has gratefully received gifts ever since, and continues to do so through the charitable foundation.
