Who remembers "The Allisons?" It's fair to say the runner up is never remembered as well as the winner in any discipline, and music is certaibly no exception. When Bernard Colin Day (OE1953-1960) left Emanuel in 1961 he went on to form one half of a highly successful pop duet called The Allisons. They were particularly famous for a monster hit single called “Are You Sure? and a vfew following minor hits which never quite scaled the same heights.
The highlight of their career probably came in 1961 when they finished a close second in the Eurovision Song Contest with their biggest hit single. Although they split-up a couple of years later they were to regularly reforn over the years and play the nostalgia tours. For budding researching out there with time on their hands: can anyone help me trace any original Allison memorabelia which might be connected to the Eurovision Song Contest. I think it would look wonderful in display in the Archive. |
