Les Stocker OE visits archive The same week John Reader visited the archive we were delighted to see Les Stocker MBE (OE ) also visit the Archive with his wife.
Les is founder of the largest wild animal hospital in the world. It has been so successful, it has been used as the blue-print for many similar organisations in Europe at the USA. It all started humbly in the late 70s where Les, a disillusioned accountan, at the time cared for sick hedghogs in their back garden. As Tiggywinkles now approaches its 30 anniversary the hospital has gone from strength to strength, often caring for upwards of 400 animals at a time. The hospital is completely self-funding, and has a staff of over 20 people. Les was awarded the MBE by the Queen some years ago. Les and his wife very kindly donated a very large, signed, collection of his published work to the School Archive, along with some videos and guides. They aslo gave us a huge, framed, photograph (taken by Les at the North Pole) and this is now proudly displayed on one of our Archive walls. These donations are now part of a collection we have been developing for a while now called "OEs in Print". It's growing fast, but relies on the generosity of authors (or OEs who know other OEs who are authors!). So if you're reading this and you think you might know of a book we might be interested in (even if you don't have it yourself) please get in touch. Our archive is open, by appointment, by contacting myself. Tony Jones |
