Keith S. Wheeler MBE

Keith S. Wheeler, who has died aged 81, was a passionate environmental educationist. He was born on 30th October 1927 and died 21st December 2008 after a short illness.

He was buried at Oadby Cemetery in Leicestershire.

He attended Emanuel School from 1939 to 1946. After service in the RAF he trained to become a teacher at College of St Mark and St John Chelsea. He later gained a diploma in drama at Rose Braford College Sidcup, where he met his wife Maureen; and later still achieved a BSc at the University of London. He taught at Secondary Schools in London before his appointment to the staff at Leicester Training College.

His interests were always very wide, but it was as an environmentalist that he was best known attending conferences in various parts of the world and editing a number of books on the subject.

He was awarded an MBE for his services to education in 1982.
