Bernard V. Slater, co- author of History of Emanuel School 1966 has died

I am sorry to inform you that my father, Bernard V. Slater, died earlier this month, on August 7th, at the age of 84.

Bernard Slater taught Classics at Emanuel School from sometime around 1950 (neither my mother nor I are sure of the exact year) until 1967, rising to the position of Senior Classical Master, before leaving to take up the position of Head of Classics at Bradford Grammar School, a position in which he remained until his retirement in 1989.

He also co-wrote (with C. Wilfrid Scott-Giles) 'The History of Emanuel School 1594-1964', which was published in 1966.

I would be very grateful if you could post news of my father's death on the Old Emanuels website, and update your alumni records accordingly. For those who are interested, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at Christchurch, Ilkley, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday 2nd September at 1pm.
